La protezione dell'ambiente sta a cuore al 95% degli europei e al 94% degli italiani che nel 75% dei casi (72% nell'Ue) sono disposti ad acquistare prodotti ecologici "anche se costano un poco di piu". Gli italiani sono anche tra i più convinti (87% contro 77% in Ue) che "la protezione dell'ambiente può stimolare la crescita economica". Sono queste alcune delle conclusioni dell'indagine realizzata tra aprile e maggio 2011 dalla Commissione Ue presso oltre 28mila cittadini in tutti gli Stati membri, per conoscere il loro atteggiamento nei confronti dell'ambiente.
Rispetto all'ultimo grande sondaggio sullo stesso tema realizzato quattro anni fa, le sorprese non mancano: "Oltre il 90% degli intervistati in ogni Stato membro si dichiara fortemente preoccupato per l'ambiente; quasi 9 cittadini su 10 ritengono che, nonostante la crisi economica, l'Ue debba stanziare fondi per finanziare attività a favore dell'ambiente; e ancora più di 8 cittadini su 10 considerano che per proteggere l'ambiente nel loro Paese sia necessaria una normativa a livello dell'Unione. Non solo.
Il commissario europeo all'ambiente Janez Potocnik, nel commentare i risultati dell'indagine Eurobarometro precisa che "molte tendenze indicano che gli europei - nei fatti non solo a parole - sono oggi più che mai impegnati a difendere il loro patrimonio naturale.
Dall'inchiesta emerge infatti che "due europei su tre dichiarano di aver fatto una raccolta selettiva dei rifiuti nell'ultimo mese; più della metà si sforza di ridurre il proprio consumo di energia; 4 su 10 cercano di usare meno prodotti usa e getta; un numero crescente si sta convertendo a forme di trasporto più ecologiche". E gli italiani? Quando si parla di ambiente il 51% delle persone intervistate pensa all'inquinamento delle città ma si dicono soprattutto preoccupati per le fuoriuscite di petrolio in mare e gli incidenti industriali (40%), dell'inquinamento dell'acqua e dell'aria (36%), del costante aumento della quantità di rifiuti (32%) fino all'impiego dei pesticidi in agricoltura (30%).Come porvi rimedio. Gli italiani sembravano avere le idee chiare: "Garantire - affermano - una maggiore applicazione delle leggi esistenti (36% It; 25% Ue); introdurre multe più pesanti ai trasgressori (33% It, 36% Ue), fornire più informazioni sui problemi ambientali (27% It, 26% Ue).
Almeno così sulla carta ma all'atto pratico ho qualche riserva, basta guardarsi un pò intorno.
